Comments
Comments: Unlike yesterday's hike up Mount Kearsarge, there was almost no snow along the Dublin Trail or on the summit of Mount Monadnock, but there was quite a bit of ice, most of which was black ice. Brought light traction but ended up barebooting the whole way, since most of it was avoidable with careful walking/rock hopping. Excellent views from the summit and the upper parts of the Dublin Trail, and incoming clouds from the south combined with the setting sun made for a picture-perfect view, particularly to the west. Almost no wind on the summit, either, which was good because the temperature was well below freezing, and strong wind would've added injury to insult. Going back down felt eerie at times- no wind, excellent views, and crystal clear visibility (Mount Washington was in plain view 105 miles to the north) made it hard to believe that Monadnock will be slammed by a nor'easter in a matter of hours. Glad I hiked it when I did!
