Comments: Acteon Ridge had been on my wish list for some time. We walked up Smarts Brook Trail to the bridge over to the top end of the Yellow Jacket Trail. Walked up a herd path to check out the falls, then began the bushwhack up to Bald Knob, Acteon and Sachem. Our course of travel was a bit of a zig zag, as we were attempting to hit all of the view ledges along the way.... so not as direct a line as following the ridge, per se. Along the way, there were numerous times we bumped into old maintained trail (treadway, cairns and clipped trees). Views were stunning... and did not disappoint! We came upon a burial mound where someone had placed their faithful canine... which was very touching to all of us. Descended off the north side of Sachem to the col... then headed southerly back to Smarts Brook Trail through pine woods littered with huge boulders. Came out in headlamps... days are getting short! A great day out with Paul, Ken, Neha, Hilde and Gary.
