Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: On Mt. Potash trail, crossing Downes Brook requires your boots to get wet (looked a bit up and down-stream). With walking sticks, it is doable but definitely simpler to use the logging road to bypass the sketchy water crossing. I would think in a day or two this will be simple to cross.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are some downed trees/large limbs but nothing bad. Drainage issues always abound in late fall/early winter because of the leaves. To me that is part of the hiking experience. Nothing was impassible.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sadly, no dogs on this hike
Bugs
Bugs: One fly on top of Hedgehog...

Comments
Comments: Saw no one on the Potash trail...glorious!!! Saw some patches of snow starting about 300’ from the summit, but nothing on the trails, only water, mud, and a bunch of leaves (which caused a few missteps, but thankfully my boots supported my ankles so no issues). The ledges were mostly dry though the springs are definitely flowing, but no ice to worry about today with the sun hitting them.

Hedgehog - easy trail to follow on the way up if you go counterclockwise. Saw three people total...on going the same way as I was and two other gentlemen doing the trail clockwise. Coming down, on the East Ledges was fun, but as I got off the ledges, lost the trail twice as the leaves cover the trail and some of the tree markings are very faded. So I had a good bushwhacking experience!!! Truthfully, it appeared many others made the same wrong turns (or continued straight when we should have turned). Definitely vital that the trail markings are redone sooner rather than later if AMC doesn’t want new trails to pop up and cause more issues in the near future. Great day and glad I was able to get both peaks in today (first time on Potash, repeat of Hedgehog)
