Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The perennial, significant, mud puddles immediately before the summit were thankfully, mostly frozen. If memory serves, they have been an unwelcome fixture on this trail for decades. The trails had dried out significantly from what was posted the day before. That said, there remained water running ~100 ft down the trail in a few places for want of water bars to remove it. Cleaning out/digging out water bars and out flows will be a significant part of spring cleaning for the adopters. A number of water bars were filled to failure with compacted soil. There are several blowdowns in the mid-section of the switchbacks, mostly under 10 inches, that will be removed as part of spring maintenance as this trail will see little use after closure of Tripoli Rd. The few folks hiking this trail from Tripoli in the winter will doubtless find them awkward but manageable.

Comments
Comments: Had a great hike on what was probably the last day before significant snow, so conditions are expected to change soon.
Had a chat with Doug on East Osceola and several times thereafter as we leapfrogged our way back. Also, with Ron and a friend between the peaks.
Light traction was used on the steeps between the peaks on the hard-crusted snow. The ledges in the switchbacks were icy and required care on the ascent but were largely thawed on the descent.
