Wore winter hiking boots to 2nd water crossing then it started to be slippery so I swapped to spikes until the Avalon Spur. There was a single set of boot prints ahead in the snow that was about 6†deep. I swapped to snowshoes from the Avalon Spur to Mt Field summit and back down to the Avalon Spur. There was up to a foot of snow in spots going up to the Willey Range Trail. A-Z Trail heading towards Tom at the Avalon split was not broken out at all - no foot prints. WRT was broken out over to Mt Willey from Mt Field - I passed two hikers who came up that way, boots only. After them though, a couple who broken out Avalon with snowshoes from the 2nd water crossing to the Avalon Spur behind me - continued over to Willey so that section of trail should be pretty broken out. |
