| Comments: |
The lower part of the trail was covered in a couple inches or so of packed snow, with some patches of ice and a few small wet/muddy areas. Past the second brook crossing, the snow depth steadily started to increase, with one more minor wet/muddy area before the side path to the ski slope outlook. From that junction to the summit, the snow was anywhere from six inches to a foot deep, sometimes deeper. The footbed also had nearly full snow coverage, with some of the bigger rocks still poking out a bit. The snowpack was at its deepest along the ridge crest to the summit. Fortunately, the trail was well packed out by the weekend hiker traffic, so I was able to comfortably wear light traction the whole hike.
The "summer" hiking season may be over, but the real hiking season is just getting started! |
