Shout out to the three who broke out this route on Saturday, the 17th. Thank you for all the hard work!
Snowshoes were definitely still the way to go this day since only the aforementioned three had done the initial trail breaking, and the surface was nowhere near consolidated enough to be barebooting/spiking. FP and I were doing a great job further packing out Scaur Ridge, upper PBB, and MTT - what a lovely, smooth track we had going! - when a barefoot brigade of five caught us at our turnaround point, Middle Tri, three of them carrying their snowshoes when it clearly would have been easier to be WEARING them. Those three had come up PBB, while the other two did a great job of f'ing up our previously beautiful, smooth track. We did our best to smooth it out on the way down, but quite a few 6-8" postholes remain. :( What're ya gonna do? It's enough to make the idea of pursuing winter Redlining VERY enticing. Hmm...
Otherwise, it was a gorgeous, perfect "winter" day in November!!
* Note to the person who attempted North Slide on Monday: Scaur Ridge Trail junction is about a quarter mile past the turnoff to North Slide and was definitely broken out on Sunday. |
