Comments
Comments: We started on the Baldface Loop trail counter clockwise. We barebooted until the first junction and switched to microspikes, which was helpful as we soon came to the first water crossing. It was rock hoppable but the rocks had an ice coating. Our goal today was Eagle Crag to finish my 52WAV. We switched to snowshoes shortly after the 2nd junction to get more purchase and as the snow got more unconsolidated. It felt almost Spring like today, warm in the 30's. The snow was sticky and clumping to the snowshoes. It was steep and icy just before the summit, glad my snowshoes had aggressive crampons. We had lunch on Eagle Crag, took some pictures, and because it was such a nice day, we elected to make a loop of it and headed .3 across the ridge to the junction with Bicknell Ridge. The 2nd half of the hike was a little more slow going because the trail did not appear to have been broken and there were some deep snow drifts. We broke trail from the junction with Baldface Circle trail and Bicknell Ridge trail to Eagle Cascade Link Trail, where someone had found time to build a snowman. It looked like several people had barebooted up to this point and maybe did a loop with the Eagle Cascade Link, though we never saw anyone. We continued down. There was more snow on this trail than on Baldface Circle Tr. It was a beautiful day.
