Used snowshoes from beginning. Crawford Path packed but snowshoes work better in loose snow.
Bare booters did not effect the trail, but seemed to struggle more than those on snowshoes.
3 of us began breaking trail from Webster Cliff trail Junction toward Eisenhower. Snow cover was a mix of windblown crust and powder with some significant drifting. Trail finding was a bit of a challenge, but easily done with care. We did well until an open ledge area, when we were saved by a couple from behind us, who used a GPS to locate the next corridor. In these conditions, you could get into some serious spruce traps if you don't locate the trail corridor.
There is a great track to Eisenhower now. Not sure what the upcoming weather will do.
Great day above the under cast today |
