Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Hancock, South Hancock, NH
Trails
Trails: Hancock Notch Trail, Cedar Brook Trail, Hancock Loop Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, December 1, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Well plowed. More than "full house" today.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Almost all crossings have open water but water levels are low everywhere. Most are a single step-over and for the rest is possible to cross on rocks without dragging snowshoes in the water.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Numerous bend-overs and some smaller blowdowns. I was able to remove most of stuff which could be described as direct obstacles. However, there are still plenty of places where you have to push through. The short herd-path to view-point near North Hancock is completely blocked by bend-overs. I prioritized working on the trails (there was more than enough!!) and did not touch the herd-path.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: All trails are now well-broken out and in good shape for dogs.

Comments
Comments: Some 20+ hikers on the trails today and they are all well broken out - more consolidated a lower elevation and less so at higher elevation.

More snowshoers than barebooters today and as a result the trails are in pretty good shape. However, the barebooters were slow and the last ones to get out - most likely leaving the trails a bit choppy.
