Comments
Comments: Continued picking away at the Trail Bandit map. This is a short hike, 0.54 (O.W.), with a nice view:
After parking at the first right hand pull out on Ossipee Park Rd, walk back across the little bridge (towards Rt. 171). See logging road on your right, directly across the street from a house. Take note of where the river is on the map and its relation to the trail. Maybe .4 in, you'll come to a fork, bear right. The logging road is easy to follow until you get to the beginning of the steeper incline, where it narrows into a trail, and is more difficult to find. But you can easily reason out where the trail is, by noting it turns slightly away from the river, leaving you facing a steep and very straight ridge backbone, that looks like, and does, go straight to the summit. Just think, "Where would I cut a trail?", and you'll see it.
I barebooted it; the snow that remains is not deep and there's some really really slippery frozen leaves on parts of the steeps right now. There is enough brush and trees to grab to get past these sections, using care.
According to the sign further up on Ossipee Park Rd, this is on LRCT property and they do allow hunting. For awhile, I followed a hunter's footprints, who was following deer tracks.
Standing in the sun up top, looking at yet another pristine view of the lake, I found it difficult to leave the summit. It may be that the lay of the land cuts the wind down.
