Comments
Comments: There is a good snowshoe trench from route 16 to the summit of Mt Isolation. There are boot holes especially on the Engine Hill bushwhack. Snowshoers take care not to catch a toe in these holes. It seems like in prior years the Engine Hill bushwhack kept to the contour to meet the Isolation Trail further north. The current bushwhack loses considerable elevation to meet the Isolation Trail. The bushwhack does eliminate three crossings of the Rocky Branch River and it avoids low branches and brush so it is useful. There are short stretches of snowless trail where there is either running or standing water. These spots are rock, water, or ice. Often there are snowshoe by-passes in these sections.
The Davis Path is unbroken south of the Mt Isolation Spur and north of the Isolation Trail / Davis Path junction. The bushwhack from the Isolation Trail to the point south of the aforementioned junction is not broken out.
The views from the Mt Isolation summit were restricted by clouds on the Presidential Range. Good views to the east.
