It was a fine day out. The trail is very well packed down and easy to follow. I made swift headway, stopping only to take pictures. Summit had a decent crust. The only post holing was when I explored around the periphery, and even then, it wasn't bad at all. Views out to Mt Washington, Franconia Notch, and everything in between. 10/10. If the weather's clement, bring a picnic and enjoy the views.
Coming back down, the fire road has seen some kind of vehicular traffic, and so the way going was as easy as it was on the trail heading up.
Doetown road was about what you'd expect for rural winter driving. Be careful, and take it slow. I didn't have any problems, but as is prudent anywhere else in the Whites, it's a good idea to keep a shovel in your car. The parking area wasn't so much plowed as it was just packed down. Roads outside Doetown road were fine.
Photos and a short video are on my blog. |
