Just for a change, we hiked the loop clockwise today so approached the S ledges before the summit. I don't think there's an advantage or otherwise to which way it's done. It's a pretty hike either way. The trail is in decent shape, broken out but pitted and post-holed somewhat. As it was cold and the snow was hard, the post-holes were easy to avoid today.
There's a shortcut tramped out from below the ledges and through the woods to the upper part of the cliff edge. It was fine today because the snow was rock hard but not recommended if it warms up. It looked like there'd be spruce traps ready to catch the unwary.
We wore microspikes and they were fine today. |
