Comments
Comments: Cloudy skies today with the summits in the fog. Trail was firm right from the start so we were fine in spikes. Trail was well packed by snowshoes and skis. There were a few areas where open seeps limited snow accumulation. Those are now frozen and will start to fill in with the next storm. First signs of ice flows just below the Alexandria Ski Trail Junction with the Clark Trail. Ice flow were easy enough to get around but could get more difficult with the melting expected this weekend. Once we were on the Hurricane Gap Trail the snow was much softer and loaded with post holes. HGT was a rough walking, snowshoes would have been helpful here. South Ridge Trail to the summit of the South Peak was well packed. Snowshoes will likely be needed over the weekend with the warmer temps as the trail was softening up early afternoon when we were coming down.
