A nice day in the 20s with minimal wind. Hiked solo. Completely overcast at the top but could see adjoining mountains on the way up. Trail was well packed and the granite slabs were either bare or covered with 2-4 inches of well packed snow such that there was no concern of slipping. Microspikes highly recommended as there are numerous place on trail where water has pooled and frozen over - just easier with spikes. Trail at top will get windswept each morning so I followed the 2-3 people who had already passed. Excellent ice formations on the far side of Dickey off the ledge on the trail down (not on trail - next to trail). I felt slow but did it in 3:15 which is pretty close to the book. Two other cars when I started at 9am, 4 cars when I left. |
