Comments
Comments: Road walk had very soft snow. The bottom part of the trail alternated between bare ground and deep enough snow for snowshoes. The upper 2/3 of the trail had plenty of snow (and some deep postholes).

We wore snowshoes the whole time because the snow was soft even on the road walk. I postholed a couple of times on the trail with my snowshoes on. That being said, the bottom 1/3 of the trail alternated between bare ground and lots of snow...walking on the bare ground so often wearing snowshoes was irritating.

Warm day, and there was an overpowering weird mechanical smell on the road walk at 6am when we started and again at 12:30pm when we were walking back. The smell took over most of the road. It wasn’t a snowmobile smell - don’t know WHAT it was. Thankfully, no icky smells (besides that of sweaty hikers) on the trail.
