Comments
Comments: KRT Kinsman Ridge Trail, then a little side path to a ski trail and up to the tram station to the Rim Trail Loop. Retraced steps back down.

This was a paved highway today! We used snowshoes with the televators going up, only because of the steep grade and just spikes on descent. There were occasional snowshoe post holes, especially on the final ascent to the summit. It got a little windy on the ascent and a couple hikers turned around once in the exposed area. One looked very experienced, but said the trail was all drifted over and hard to follow. However when we got to the area in question the wind died down. The trail does go more direct, but was all drifted over as he mentioned in the exposed area, so we followed a nicely packed path to the right and lead to a lower spot on the ridge leading to the summit. It emptied out down about 100 Yards from the upper tram station on a ski trail and went up the side of it. The Rim Trail Loop was littered with snowshoe post holes and a little tricky. Once to the summit tower I noticed the nicely packed paved highway to the chair lift drop off area, so it took 1/4 the time to get back to the upper tram station area. Once we started back to the exposed area, where you go down some then back up a little, the clouds lifted and we had blue skies and excellent views of most of Franconia Ridge. The sun came out and warmed us as well! As mentioned we wore just spikes all the way down and made good time. Several hikers were butt sliding for long stretches. We only did it on one little section as it seemed like a safer option. Very fun day! Link to my FB post with pics below!
