I started on the logging roads headed up towards the Black Crescents. When the plowed road ended, I began following minor roads and skid paths towards the ridge. Somehow I got pulled way too far north and had to side-hill for a long way. The woods were thick at times and the snow was soft. I hit the talus field on Black Crecent and headed over the minor bumps on the way to the south peak. Lots of spruce traps near the recognized summit. To return, I ran right down paralleling Moose Brook to the north, until I cut to the dam access road; much better. For this peak, I would not recommend using my accent tracks, though they would provide some headway on the peaks to the north.
Throughout, snow was wet and sloppy; in places it packed well in others, especially up high there were deep soft pockets where I would plunge in; sticking was a bit of an issue too. |
