Comments
Comments: Avalon Trail had 1-2" of new snow covering a well packed footbed - on WRT it was 1-2" with a few 4-5" drifts. Not knowing what to expect on the ridge I brought snowshoes but they never left my pack. Because this was an out-n-back (i.e. descending Avalon Trail) I wore Hillsound 'crampon lites' for the entire trek and they worked perfectly. Two folks who passed me going up Avalon Trail in the AM used snowshoes on the ridge but others wore some form of light traction. Note that if you are just off the trail between Field and Willey you may sink a bit so it is wise to stay dead center.

This was a better day than I expected - crisp both in terms of temps and views. Blue skies lots of sun made for an excellent trek - I had all three outlooks to myself in the morning and I even visited Avalon on both passes. Quite a few others enjoying the area also.
