| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of room at the plowed lot by the trailhead on a spur off the main Aerial Tramway parking. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Blue, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable) |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
None |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail at today's snow depth was clear of obstacles. There are a couple of trees just downhill of the glades that are across the trail but currently at a sufficient height to easily pass under them. If the snow depth deepens these may pose some difficulty. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw one dog that seemed to be doing well. There was limited water on the trail but the distance is short. |

| Comments: |
The Kinsman Ridge trail was packed snow surface from the trailhead to the summit with some bare rocks on the ledges below the summit and at east peak and icy spots here and there. Occasional boot holes to the sides of the packed monorail that presented no problems. Snowshoes are not practical today. MicroSpikes or trail crampons provided excellent traction on the frozen snow surface. I did see one person wearing Yak-Traks and some bare booters who were managing to get along but I would recommend a bit more traction.
Lots of hikers on the trail today. It was good to talk with Lefty and his hiking companions today. Tourists who ascended via the tramway were at the observation tower. The glades have not been skied. Great views of Franconia Notch, the high peaks of Franconia Ridge, and the westward outlook to Vermont's Green Mountains. |
