| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Trailhead plowed (and later sanded) only up to entrance of first parking area. 3-4" snow left in main car parking areas, perhaps just for now? They got the important section plowed so it's easy to get up and into the parking area. |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
The Drakes Brook crossing near the power lines is ok to cross, with poles anyway. I left mine at home so I opted to walk out to the road, cross the bridge, and bushwhack to the trail. On the way out, though, I just went for it. Submerged both boots but very little water got in - didn't matter anyway since I was basically done at that point. Water level is pretty high with this latest thaw/rain cycle, and many rocks have ice with snow/crust on top -- so they can be tough to judge. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns up high, nothing terrible. |

| Comments: |
Broke trail the whole way, difficult but not nearly as hard as Breadloaf and Wilson. Forgot how steep the ascent to Noon Peak is! Thinner crust (maybe 1/2") this time, breaking through to 4-6" granular/powder underneath. On the way down, encountered a couple at the first lookout (last one on the descent), likely they weren't going all the way to Sandwich; she was taking photographs with a nice camera. So there's at least one set of tracks to Sandwich, and a couple more for much of the first mile, anyway.
Awesome hike to start off 2019, glad I got myself out there. 85 of Winter NE 100 |
