Comments
Comments: Perfect warm day with no wind to get some Presidentials. We needed Jeff, Monroe, and Big George for January, and conditions were great.

Ammo was packed enough for microspikes until the very upper portion, where we switched to snowshoes and felt more comfortable (soft snow with some small drifts). We saw a few in just microspikes who were doing just fine, though.

We used the great traction on our snowshoes to walk straight up Monroe, staying on ice/snow boulders.

From the hut, we stayed in snowshoes as the snow between Monroe and Washington was a bit soft with small drifts here and there.

From Washington to Jefferson, snowshoes were useless (Alex kept hers on anyway, but Sage and I switched to microspikes when we got past the cog tracks). Thin layers of ice on rock, mostly.

During our entire hike, there were a few short moments were crampons would have made me feel more secure. We carried them but never put them on...probably a good idea to actually use them sometimes instead of carrying them for fun...

By the time we got to Jewell it was almost sunset - many others had gone before us and the trail was packed. Sage and I stayed in microspikes and Alex went behind us in her snowshoes.

I think it’s Sage’s turn to write up a report. Her blog is listed below.

We saw a lot of familiar faces up there today. Really nice seeing everyone!
