Comments
Comments: Hiked up Nineteen Mile Brook to Carter Notch Hut Sunday 1/06. Some flurries and partly cloudy. Trail conditions gorgeous - packed powder, hardly any ice, blowdowns cleared, no postholes at all. Previous notes describing wet areas are now frozen over or snowed over. Microspikes all the way to hut were fine. Few areas of windblown snow closer to hut (past Notch) made trail tricky to find at one or two places - but then fine. Snowshoes might have been easier here but spikes OK. 1/2 inch of new snow on 19 mile trail up. Also went part way up Carter-Moriah trail on snowshoes - loose/packed powder, some 'scrape-y' areas with icy/snow underneath. no postholes at all :). Overnight in the bunkhouses was cold! 0F in the AM, windchill -10 to -20 brrrr - inside caretaker hut was 43F this AM :)
