Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Barely sustainable ice bridges on the way in over the river. More sketchy on the way out. Stepped wrong and broke through. Lots of little water bars across the trail from trailhead to shelter, easily stepped over.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trimmed out a number of annoying blowdowns but otherwise, trail is in good shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Took our two dogs, one short haired and one long haired. Shorty got loaded with snowballs, snow was sticky. Little tough going on the steep ascent.

Comments
Comments: Trail from TH to shelter was roughly tracked out by barebooters covered with the newest layer of snow. From shelter to 0.6 from the ridge was all new snow over a trace of what was the trail. Snowshoes were a necessity. Very soft, sticky but not yet heavy snow. Nice easy grade for breaking until the end of the river. Note: the map shows no crossing at the end of river but trail does cross over, easy enough with the ice bridges there. We got off track for about a half hour looking for the correct route. Finally found the blazes after creating a few wrong ways. Bare right when you come to the end of river and cross it and immediately start climbing. The ascent at this point is very steep and with loose, unbroken trail it proved to be too difficult for the dogs and my partner. We were behind schedule with detours and trail maintenance and knew we wouldn't make the top in time before possibly getting hit with the forecasted rain. Exhausted we turned around and called it a day leaving 0.6m remaining of unbroken trail to the ridge. It was a productive yet disappointing day. We did not get hit with any rain.
