Comments
Comments: From a recent trail report on the 10th indicating "Attempt" I knew that the trail was broken out to at least 7+/- tenths from the summit. Trail report further indicated that 2 were attempting it with a winter camping option so I was hoping for it to be all broken out. Started at 0730 hours from parking lot on 302. Zealand rd for the most part was broken out except where it drifted in from the night before. Made it to Hale Trailhead at 0845hrs and met with the 2 who had camped out at TH. They said that they only made it a short distance passed where the other two had gone but that the trail was broken out to 3000ft. Made quick work up to this spot arriving just before 10am. From there it took another 2 hours to reach the summit. "about 7 tenths of a mile" With snowshoes on was still sinking in 20-30 +/- inches and a couple of times went right up to my chest. Trail from TH to 3000ft pretty solid and should set up tonight. From 3000ft to summit, was just I and one other with snowshoes so still really soft and unstable. Zealand Rd packed out good but evidence showed one bare booter sinking in 2-3 inches in most spots. My suggestion would be snowshoes to and from. Happy trails..
