Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, January 13, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Coppermine Road is plowed and sanded. The parking area off the side of the road is not plowed, so we all parked on the road as far to the side as we could, just before the sign saying No Parking Beyond This Point.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable)
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The only major crossing was bridged.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Didn't see too many blazes, but the trail is wide and easy to follow the whole way. No blowdowns, however many trees had branches that sagged onto the trail from the weight of the snow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Unless you have an especially hardy dog, the temperature today would probably have been too cold for them. In more reasonable temperatures, dogs would do fine on this hike.
Bugs
Bugs: At 0 degrees Fahrenheit? Seriously?
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nada.

Comments
Comments: Nice easy trail up to a frozen waterfall. When we started the hike, the temperature was below zero - it gradually warmed up to around 12 degrees during the day. Trail was fairly well packed up to the bridge - we had less than a dozen postholes that entire distance. We did that section in spikes, though snowshoes would have worked as well. The short stretch from the bridge to the base of the falls was untouched - we packed it out. On the way back, we made sure to have 3 or 4 snowshoers bringing up the rear so that the trail would be fairly well packed and smooth for the next hikers. Only a few small patches of ice on the trail - mostly just snow. The falls and brook were both beautiful, with the former largely covered in ice and the rocks in the latter being topped with fluffy snow.

Cold temperatures can't get us New Hampshireites down!
