Made a nice midday loop up Whiteface. Whiteface Mountain Trail was pretty well packed but a bit choppy. We were fine in spikes. There had been a couple snowmobiles up to the summit packing the trail down as well. A little bit of ice near the summit where the wind had blown the snow off. Great views today reaching to Mts. Monadnock, Cardigan, Kearsarge, the Uncanoonucs, and all the big peaks to the north. We decided to descend via the snowmobile trails for a change of scenery. There had been some snowmobile traffic until it meets the junction with the Belknap Mountain Road Extension (Class IV) where the snowmobiles followed the road in the opposite direction. After that we were breaking trail through about 6 inches of powder. Nice loop for a cold day. |
