Comments
Comments: the road in to the pond had a hard packed track. we jumped onto basin trail and initially it was lightly broken before a hard packed trail quickly joined in. from there it was easy going on packed trail until the long side hill and steeps which were still a little tricky even broken out. worth noting that the trail fills in with snow sloughing off the cliffs/ledges in this section and there were signs of this happening in spots since it was previously travelled. could be problematic if the cliffs were loaded with snow and people trigger a slide. once on the rim we continued on the broken route down black angel past the tent site and up towards its height of land on the peak. before reaching the height of land the track turned up towards the peak and continued on a great line in open woods to the recognized highpoint. we back tracked, using care on the steeps, then cruised back out to the parking lot.
big thank you to campsite for their work busting out this route. it must have been quite a challenge. its rare to get to take advantage of someone elses tracks to some of these smaller winter peaks and it was much appreciated. hope to be able to pay it forward in this or winters to come.
