| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We met in two separate cars at the Champney lot. It was not plowed, however had been plowed prior to the Sunday storm. We shoveled enough to enter and park one car. We managed to get the more capable car in (Subaru Forester) and parked the small car at Sabbaday, which was plowed. When we returned around 3:30, Champney was still not plowed. |

| Comments: |
Route: We started on the Bolles, where going was hard due to snow depth, route finding, and crossings. We made some progress along the trail's route, but did not hold the trail proper consistently. Given the challenge of breaking, we chose to minimize distance and turn up the northeast ridge. This change took us over a number of challenging drainages, but eventually we were on track up the ridge, which we followed up to the recognized highpoint.
Snow: Lots of deep/unconsolidated from the Sunday storm and storm's prior. At best we were sinking 10" to a foot. Other times, we were chipping away at hip-deep drifts. Some sections involved sustained 18" breaking. Higher up sections of spruce were filled in with soft unconsolidated snow.
Woods: Mainly open, some tight sections, some snow-filled spruce sections. |
