Comments
Comments: Sufficient snow to stay in snowshoes the entire way, including all of the Carriage road. On Piper Mtn trail, there is some water running under the trail in spots, you can collapse through. There's one short bare icy spot where the cairns begin. My short Evo's snowshoe crampons were cutting into the ice enough for traction. Nothing major.
The Old Piper trail was a mess of drifts and postholes, but none of it really slowed me down in snowshoes. On the Carriage Road I found it more relaxing to break new trail in the couple inches of powder; that way my ankles were not getting turned all about.

There must have been quite the raging water coming down that mountain during the rainstorm. At one spot on the Carriage Road, there is an open culvert for a small brook. The road surface is several feet above the culvert. You can see where the water raced down the mountain, carving additional new paths in the snow, and then jumped the entire road, forming a sort of foot tall rime/snow pattern across the road.
