We were pleasantly surprised to find that the trail had been booted-out all the way to the summit. Too few snowshoes had been over the trail before the freeze-up after the big rain to smooth it out, so expect it to be a bit choppy. However, it will support your weight with just microspikes as long as you stay on the monorail. But under the frozen granular crust is unconsolidated granular snow and snowshoes will likely be required if we get a thaw.
Thanks to Anthony for organizing this Randomites trip. |
