| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Wear spikes in the parking lot! It was an ice skating rink! |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow - Drifts, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable) |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Drakes Brook was the only real water crossing, managed to rock hop across on the way in - took the 'bushwhack' to the power lines on the way out since I had snowshoes on, I'd go back and hop some rocks next time unless the water was much much higher. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
None to really mention, the packed snowshoe tracks veered around any minor limbs that had come down. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Only one in the parking lot when I got back - running around OFF LEASH as the owner sat in her Jeep oblivious. |
|
| Bugs: |
Nothing yet! |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Not a thing! |

Windy hike, the tracks (even my own which I put down 30 minutes prior) had blown over, so in sections coming back down Sandwich Dome if I didn't know the general idea of where the trail went - I could see it being troublesome in a few spots to know where the trail goes, pretty easy to follow though with a little care. Jennings peak seemed longer than 0.2mi - maybe because every step was breaking thru a wind swept crust even with snowshoes! All LOVELY little peaks, great views - much better than I had expected of a hike over all. Even met the gentleman who 'adopted' the trail, we talked for a few minutes about conditions. Very nice folks out today, great windy hike before the snow came in!
I'll do a quick write up of the day with photos on my blog down below - probably Monday/Tuesday.. Cheers! |
