Comments
Comments: There is a solid base topped with loose powder of variable depth. The exception is in the windswept areas between east peak and the summit where there is no snowshoe trench with a hard-packed shallow snow cover. Care is required in places to spot the current path which diverges from the Kinsman Ridge Trail and tracks over to the Vista ski trail (especially in cloudy conditions as existed today). On ascent stay to the left side of the ski slope to avoid the downhill skiers. There are two trails from the ski slope to the summit tower. One heads south just uphill from the Vista and Tramway ski trail junction. The other heads south just beyond an information board across from the ski lift.
Snowshoes with built in traction worked best in most cases. On descent the traction had trouble in the deeper powder on steep slopes. In one spot I gave up and butt slid a short distance.
I never saw so many skiers/snowboarders in the glades. Nice to meet Georg and his friends near East Peak.
