| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The West Side Trail trailhead for the Moat Mountain Trail was well plowed. When I started the hike, there were no fee envelopes and the iron ranger was covered by a garbage bag, but when I got back, the bag was removed and the envelopes were fully re-stocked. Bring a Lincoln from here on out. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One or two (can't remember exactly) large duck under blowdowns in the beginning section of the Moat Mountain Trail, past Diana's Baths. There was flagging along the ledge portions of the Moat Mountain Trail, likely to mark the trail. Not sure who put the flagging there. |

| Comments: |
The Moat Mountain Trail was broken out all the way to the summit of North Moat. Save for some drifting and minor postholing along the upper two miles, the footway was well packed and easily snowshoed. Some ice just below the summit as well. Despite the heavily overcast skies, the summit was not socked in and the views were good, but unfortunately most of the higher peaks and all of the 4,000 footers normally visible were in the clouds. Please bring/wear snowshoes with this incoming mild weather- if the trail becomes full of postholes and there is a thaw/freeze cycle, the footway could be quite hazardous due to the frozen postholes/choppiness. |
