Comments
Comments: trail is well broken out from Ferncroft Parking Lot to Wonalancet winter short cut. The track I was following turned left and headed up Wonalancet. I stayed on the cut off and it had not been broken out since the last snowstorm, although someone had been on the trail since that storm but managed to stay on top of the snow. This allowed me to follow the trail. I broke trail to the end of the cutoff (4/10ths of a mile) and that took me a half hour. I was sinking in 6 to 9 inches. From the end of the cut off to Hibbard looked completely unbroken. The snow was 2 to 3 feet deep at that point and I called it a day.

this was a fun hike of three hours. Breaking trail wasn't that bad, but to go beyond where I stopped will probably require three people. At that elevation it looked like conditions would be much more difficult.

Someone had done an excellent job of cutting through the handful of duck unders and step overs leading up to the cutoff. Thanks go out to that person or persons.

My recommendation is snowshoes from car door to car door. There were two icy areas near the cutoff but my snowshoes (aggressive mountain shoes) were fine with a bit of butt sliding over the trickier areas.
