Comments
Comments: we walked briefly south on parmenchenee road then started our bushwhack up the northeast ridge of se horne brook. we started out in open cuts then open woods higher up the ridge with one sprucy section before the summit and recognized highpoint. snow conditions were tough with a breakable crust on top. sometimes the snow below was supportive, sometimes not and deep punch throughs were somewhat regular. from the summit we dropped down to the col with east horne brook with much of the same snow conditions and some scrappy, but mostly good woods. heading up to east horne brook in open woods we hit some old snowmobile tracks then took aim for the prominent little notch south of the main peak and north of a minor sub peak. this allowed straight forward passage up an otherwise steep slope farther east. snow conditions were more variable and challenging in places, but the woods mostly open as we continued north to the summit and recognized highpoint. we dropped back to the col then headed northeast following the old snowmobile tracks which allowed for much easier going. these tracks ultimately joined a logging road depicted on the usgs and led to abbott brook road a 5-10 minute walk from where we parked.
