Comments: Doublehead Mountain - North Peak (aka W. Dinsmore)
From parking spot, walked recently groomed Sandwich Notch Road snomo trail for 2.25 miles, just beyond a culvert. Started both legs of the bushwhacks here.
Headed SW through wide open hard woods to a cliffy/ledgy ring on the E side of the mountain. We aimed for coordinates, found on CALTOPO - slope angle shading, that provided an excellent avenue through the ledges. Reached recognized high point, in sparse spruce, which is an NFS bearing tree and corner marker. Excellent viewpoint a little SW of the summit. Retraced our steps to Sandwich Notch Road.
Dinsmore Mountain
From road, headed E through wide open hard woods, that then changed to open soft woods, that then appeared to be changing to spruce hell. So we veered North for a while until we encountered wide open hard woods again. At this point we turned E again and stayed in the hard woods while always skirting the thick spruce. Eventually this led us to the mini col a little N of the summit. We then turned S through open soft woods to the recognized summit. We returned via Sandwich Notch Road.
bw conditions:
breaking - very good conditions - consistent 2-4" breaking on a consolidated base
vegetation - wide open hard woods, open soft woods, no thick spruce, no sprucy areas
grades - comfortable with 1 or 2 steeper spots
