Comments
Comments: Wore snowshoes top to bottom but most hikers I ran into above the hut were in hillsounds or crampons as there were some icy spots to negotiate, but they can be avoided by just heading off trail on nice firm snow. The snowfield above Lakes is not scary yet, it's easy to angle your way up and down while getting a good bite for footing. I used the snow fields above the Westside junction on my way up for a change of pace, good snow to pick your own route. Monroe Loop up to the summit was icy so I found a more manageable route off trail on snow to the top and then just dropped off the eastern snowfield from the summit to Crawford Path.

I got an early start and had to battle the wind which was not too bad but very cold, on my way down the wind all but stopped and it felt like being at the beach ... along with the crowds, I must have seen 50 people while heading down from Lakes!
