We started bare-booting some minor ups and downs Mad Road Trail heading northeast. It’s a well packed snowmobile trail this time of year. At roughly 1.5 mile it drops down between Bacon Pond to the north and Frog Pond to the south. After passing these ponds the trail turns north, at this point we strapped on our snowshoes started bushwhacking northeast in nice woods at moderate grade heading for the south running ridge.

At roughly 2000 feet we hit a very steep area with a few large blowdowns that required some tree hugging to prevent falling back down. Once at the top of the steeps we hit the Monadnock Sunapee Greenway trail that took us a short distance to the summit and recognized high point.

On our return trip we wanted to avoid the steep section we came up on, so we followed the Monadnock Sunapee Greenway trail southeast further than the point we jumped on. This worked out well for a short distance as we wall of large blowdown pines on the trail. We then needed to start bushwhacking east back to the truck and once again we hit a few hundred yards of large blowdowns and then nice open word back to the snowmobile trail and truck.

I guess we avoided the really steep down and of course another great adventure with Mary
