I wanted to do something like a 4K and short drive and low probability of post holes. Sandwich and Jennings proved to be good bet. I ascended via Sandwich Mountain Trail. I was pleased to see very nice snow shoe track. The steep section below Noone Peak was easiest I've had it thanks to televators on my MSR Evo Asents. After the steeps track ended for some reason and there was just one lone bare booter who hadn't trashed the trail too much thanks to supportive crust down below latest snowfall. I made it to Jennings and didn't see packed trail heading out to Sandwich and was contemplating skipping Sandwich when who should show up but a party of ten all wearing snowshoes who were going on to Sandwich. My lucky day so I decided I would follow along. I've been to Sandwich many times, but views were always hazy or socked in. Thanks to 2-3 feet of snow I had great views to north and south to lakes region. The party of ten was heading out via Drakes Brook Trail so I exited via Drakes. Anyone looking for nice well packed trails Sandwich is the place to go. |
