There were two other groups of two, in addition to Rob and I, on the trail today--all on snowshoes (we wore them car-to-car, the others appeared to put them on higher up). The track is very well packed out now, with no evidence of bare-boot post-holing. Thanks to forewarning from Rocket21's earlier NETC posting, we avoided following the better packed out false track on the EH bushwhack--ten minutes or so into the bushwhack the correct track takes a hard right upward, the false track goes straight ahead. Also, on the way up RB keep to the right, avoiding a couple of false tracks to the left. As expected, my Whippet came in handy for hooking onto a tree to help pull myself up the snow cornice on the Iso Spur, but certainly no need for self-arrest gear on this hike. Thanks to the track being packed out it was a fast day (7:31), by my standards at least, even having to deal with spruce whacking/ducking on the Isolation Tr, and especially the Davis Path. Wear eye protection! The wind made it a bit too cold for lunch on Iso, but wasn't bad enough to require face covering. A very nice walk in the woods it was. |
