Comments: Epic day as always headed deep into the Pemi for a trip to Owls Head. A few inches of new powder covered all trails from the storm overnight. It continued to snow lightly much of the hike. With terrible morning weather, I waited on this one. Started at 12:30 with three headlamps and overnight gear.

A few people on LWT, but once at the Black Pond Trail, there were no more footprints. I moved steadily and kept a moderate pace. I wanted to be off the Brutus BW before dark. I put on snowshoes at Black Pond and left them on the rest of the hike until back to Lincoln Woods Trail. The track was obvious until Brutus when spits had filled in. Wind was quite strong and was filling in tracks quickly in some places. Brutus was good. Easy to gain traction on the steeps. I found my way to the summit fondly recalling the former recognized summit as I passed.

What took an hour and a half to get up took 15 minutes to come down (Brutus). Sliding that out was a blast in the twilight. I hammered out until I needed to switch on a headlamp for safety. No moon in sight with thick cloud cover. All three headlamps gave me less than 5 minutes good light. This is why extra batteries matter. Had two bright lights back and walked on tired legs into Lincoln Woods about 8:30 giving me just enough time to grab a sub at Mr.G's Pizza right before locking the door. IMO, people who hate Owls Head have not glissaded the Brutus BW. I was laughing like a fool out there all alone sliding in wilderness snow. As good as it gets. #ILoveOwlsHead. Onward.
