Comments
Comments: Second straight weekend with an amazing above treeline day. Snowshoes were the choice up the Cog as there was some powder from recent snow. I kept them on until Gulfside, which is too bony for snowshoes. Switched to crampons and did my best to avoid rocks. Some drifting higher up as you ascend Jefferson, but not more than a few inches generally. Views were unlimited. Watching large clouds of powder roll across the summits was really cool. From the summit of Clay down to Sphinx Col is also bony, but from the summit down to the junction of Gulfside and the Cog it was quite powdery - six inches or more in places. Switched to snowshoes for the descent back down the Cog, which was now very busy with skiers. I wished I had a butt sled. I'll have to remedy that.
