Comments
Comments: The auto road is snowmobiled so spikes were perfect. At Davidge we put on snowshoes to help set it. It was still soft/unconsolidated so they worked well for this. Followed Around the Mountain Loop Tr. from intersection with Davidge and stayed in snowshoes. Was a solid ski track that we tried to avoid and about 3-6 inches of fluffy snow to "break". The ski track was pretty solid but the shoes were the best choice. The Heritage Tr., down to Reed Rd was the only unbroken trail and it had a very faint track. Went down and then back up so it is not consolidated but is an easy up/down. Followed the Old Carriage Rd up to the Mt. Prospect Auto Rd. Some snowshoe tracks, and some ski tracks but still not consolidated. At the Auto Rd put on spikes and stayed in them up to the summit and then down the AR to Davidge. Thought about snowshoes but Davidge Path had set up so stayed in spikes down to the intersection with the Loop Tr. Went the opposite way this time and connected quickly with the snowmobile part of the Around the Mountain Loop Tr. Spikes up until we went past the old ski area and then snowshoes one more time for the Heritage Tr/Around the Mountain Loop Tr up to the intersection with the Old Carriage Rd. Stayed in shoes and explored the old ski area then back to car. Fantastic views, fun chat with a gent that climbs the auto road daily to fill the bird feeder and hiking with Karen made for a prefect day.
We didn't bring them (wish we had) but Swiss Bobs, or some small sled would have been a hoot coming down.
