The trails are firm and Twinway was packed down by 2-4 snowshoers before me. Bondcliff is hard to pick up beyond Guyot due to confusing bushwhacks. Snow conditions were nearly perfect.
About 6.5 miles to the hut using Zealand Road and Zealand Trail only took 2 hours in spikes because it was firm early in the morning. Dropped my big pack at the hut and headed out to try Zealand, West Bond, Bond & Bondcliff. Zealand was relatively easy but after that the Evergreen Gauntlet took over. The trail was crowded with branches and it was hard to move fast although it had been broken earlier in the morning. Got to Bondcliff Trail and past Guyot summit the broken bushwhack went in circles so I lost about 30 minutes. I picked it up again but never got back on Bondcliff Trail so I turned around with West Bond in sight. It was tedious going back and I got back to the hut at 4:15 and was so mad I decided not to stay. Got back to the lot just after dark after 26 miles on the trail. That was a LOT of work to just have Zealand to show for it! Oh well, I'll just do Bondcliff, Bond & West Bond from the other direction this week. Now I'm ready to get poked & grabbed by even more low branches on the Bondcliff trail! |
