Comments
Comments: The trail was well packed, with some minor choppiness, to the first view ledges. From there, it was a 50/50 mix of hard packed and choppy snow to Welch Mountain and Dickey Mountain and back to the trailhead. There was also extremely little ice. I wore light traction the whole way, but this loop could have been comfortably done in either light traction or snowshoes.

Even with a 12:15 PM start, I'm surprised I only saw about a half-dozen people the whole hike, as the temps were mild, the wind was calm, and the sky was partly cloudy, which was better than the weather this morning from what I heard. Figured the place would be mobbed after driving by the Smarts Brook trailhead (which usually sees a fraction of the crowds W-D does) and seeing cars parked roadside.
