Saw 2 labs having a blast. One's owner was wearing snowshoes. The other owner was a postholer. |

Trail is in great condition now that we tramped out all the postholes. The snow is deep and soft, snowshoes are absolutely necessary.
While descending and trying to smooth out the trail, I channeled the mind of a postholer. I discovered 5 reasons/excuses a hiker chooses to posthole when snowshoes are clearly needed:
1. I can't afford snowshoes. Maybe I could if I gave up my daily latte grande. Nah!!
2. I want to support an orthopaedic surgeon. Not mine, someone else's.
3. If I wear snowshoes, how can I tell how deep the snow pack is when I step off the trail to pee? Besides, wallowing in hip-deep snow adds a cardio boost to my hike!
4. Why would I want to be categorized as a "prepared hiker" who carries multiple forms of traction and is ready for any condition the trail throws at me? That's for idiots!!
5. It's all about ME!!! |
