Redemption hike from the winds 2 weeks ago! Absolute beautiful day, clear cold teens to start windy in lot. Trail in great shape, MSR's all day. lots of people in micros so trail may be beat up now. Use snowshoes keep trail packed down! Lots of people adding or shedding layers @ junction with South Peak....googles needed from here to summit. 5-6 ft snow means head in the branches. Winds howling 30+ cold but awesome views! Trail beat up above tree line many drifts, postholes for a short distance. Then boiler plate ice traction a must. Summit clear windy & freaking cold. Spent maybe 5 mins then a mad dash for the trees. South Peak not as windy but still cold. Unless you 4' tall duck walk thru the trees until you break tree line. Views spectacular!! Thank you Kevin & Christa for a great day! 1st winter 4000 for the 3 of us!!
Trail is well packed...Thank You those in snowshoes!! Post holes near top, step off monorail you are post holing. Boiler plate ice above tree line traction a must!! |
