Champney Falls to Piper to Summit of Chocorua, side trip to Little Sister on way out. Champney is packed well, some areas loose. Light traction is OK but snowshoes are not out of question to smooth the trail over all. Higher up where Champney joins Piper to head to Chocorua there are more drifts and snowshoes will reduce the post-holes, but doable either way. Ice on Chocorua climb is avoidable and overall not bad with caution. Very windy at top today but still glorious views. Little Sister - Middle Sister see less traffic, those trails are light to hardly broken so snowshoes helpful over a pretty hard snowpack. Step off the monorail / hard pack any place along Champney, Piper, etc and you will potential sink knee to waist deep in the snow. |
